Victor John Dukart

MONTROSE — Victor John Dukart (Bud) entered into eternal life on Jan. 8, 2011 from complications due to pneumonia. Victor was born to Victor P. and Margaret (Holzmeister) on Aug. 22, 1930 in the Zuni Mountains near Bluewater, N.M. In 1945, at age 15, Victor moved with his family to the Montrose area. Vic made his home on their Spring Creek Ranch with his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Mae Dukart (Lackey). There they farmed, ranched and raised three wonderful children. Vic served in the Montrose National Guard and worked for the Montrose Potato Growers to supplement the farm in the lean years. Beef cattle was Vic’s passion, summering cattle on the Little Blue, Ridgway and on the Spring Creek Ranch. He took pride in his farming, which included pinto beans, onions, potatoes, malt barley and, of course, hay, corn and silage for the cattle. Vic traveled little, always shackled by cattle to feed or irrigation water to change.
Victor is survived by his loving wife of five years, Daisy (Miller); son, David (Janet) of Hutchinson, Kan., Dan (Lisa) and daughter, Linda; grandchildren, Rob, Addie, Vickie and David; brother, Don (Roseann); sisters, Margie DeVincentis and Caroline Middleton. Victor was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy (Lakey) in December 2004; his parents, Victor and Margaret Dukart; sister, Mary Jewel; nephew, Larry Moore; brothers-in-law, Lynn Moore and Tom Middleton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in memory of Victor Dukart, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Crippin Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church with rite of committal to follow at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose.
