Arthur Ivan ‘Art’ Dougherty

Arthur Ivan ‘Art’ Dougherty, age 84, of Montrose, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the V.A. Medical Center in
Grand Junction. Art was born December 24, 1925 to George T. and Alice (Phillips) Dougherty at Montrose, Colorado.
Art enlisted at the age of 21 and served his country in the United States Army from 1945 to 1958in Japan during WWII
then Germany, where he met and married his wife Erna. They were married September 29, 1956. Erna preceded Art in
death on April 20, 2002. Art was a life member of the D.A.V., and V.F.W., and the Ouray Elk’s Lodge #492. Following his
military service, Art returned to Montrose, where he and wife Erna made their home. Art was employed with the
Montrose Sheriff’s Office and was Sheriff of Ouray County for over 2 decades prior to his retirement.
In addition to numerous friends Art leaves behind one daughter - Isabella Starr, one grandson – Eric Sparr, one
granddaughter and grandson-in-law Brande & Robert Ford and three great-grandchildren Amber, Ryan and Sean Ford,
all from Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A Memorial Service in memory of Art Dougherty will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010, at 10:00 am at Crippin Funeral
Home Chapel. A Graveside service with Military Honors will follow the service at Cedar Cemetery, in Montrose.
Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose.
