Jon 'Rocko' D’onofrio
June 7, 1961 — July 31, 2011
Jon “Rocko” D’onofrio was called home on July 31, 2011. He is fondly remembered by many family members and close friends. Jon was born in St. Matthews, Ky., a suburb of Louisville, on June 7, 1961. Jon was the youngest of four boys – Bill, Bob, John, and Jon, along with one sister – Darleen, who was the youngest of them all. Jon was an avid surfer growing up in California. His parents, Joe and Joy, brothers and sister then moved to Arizona where, of course, there is no ocean. He learned to skateboard and was picked up by professional sponsors and spent many years skating – as well as earning several injuries. Jon wanted to become a rescue diver or a Navy Seal, but due to medical reasons was not permitted entrance into the Armed Forces. He held several colorful jobs throughout his youth and spent many years in Denver, Colo. perfecting his skill in martial arts. He also went to college where he earned degrees in journalism and broadcasting. Jon was one of few remaining people who held an FCC license in broadcasting. “Rocko” was born. He spent over 25 years living his dream as a television and radio broadcaster. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Lynn. He surprised Lynn with a live on-air marriage proposal. They were married July 7, 2006. They changed each other’s lives by giving each other what was missing and needed. They loved each other genuinely and deeply. Jon “adopted” three children – Dean, Heather and Stephanie, who all loved him dearly. He also became “Grampa” to three beautiful granddaughters. Jon has several nieces and nephews as well. His interests included watching NASCAR and playing music. Jon lived his life fully and passionately. He was always grateful to Mom and Pop for the man he became. Jon was a very generous man. He would help someone in need without asking for anything in return. He was well respected and accepted wherever he went with his infectious personality and laugh. Jon had enormous wealth – not monetary wealth, but love of his family. His family meant everything to him. Jon was taken from this life doing what he loved to do – motorcycle riding. To my George from your Georgette – you will be sincerely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you.
