Margaret S. Donaldson

MONTROSE — Margaret S. Donaldson, age 88, formerly of Montrose, passed away Friday evening, Feb. 4, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Lakewood, Colo. Margaret was born April 7, 1922, to Sherwood and Dolly (Davis) Smith in Raleigh, N.C. She graduated from Vanderbilt College in Mars Hill, N.C. with a degree in Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse, serving in the United States Army from 1942 to 1950, where she met her husband, Robert B. Donaldson. They were married Aug. 18, 1950, and he preceded her in death in 1990, in Montrose. Margaret and her family had lived in North Carolina, Washington state, Texas, Colorado, Germany and Japan. They retired to Montrose where they had spent many years together. Margaret enjoyed needlework and was a member of numerous quilting clubs.
Surviving family members include three daughters, Karen Kafka of Pierce, Colo., Karol Marquez of Lakewood, Colo. and Kim Squiers of Montrose; one brother, William Robert Smith of Hertford, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E. Main St., Montrose, CO 81401 (970) 249-2121.
