Stanley Czepiel
Nov. 6, 1918 — July 20, 2011
Stanley Czepiel, of Montrose, Colo., died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 after a brief illness. He was 92. Born in Posen, Ill. on Nov. 6, 1918 to Josef and Magdalena (Zmuda) Czepiel, he spent his early years working as a caddie at golf courses in the Chicago area. Stanley entered the Army in 1941 and served his country as an infantryman in the 3rd Division antitank company seeing action in Northern Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany until his discharge in 1945. He returned to Chicago and resumed his position at the Grand Trunk Railway until he retired with 42 years of service.
Stanley enjoyed golfing and fishing and his home in beautiful Colorado. He loved bird watching and growing trees. He was a talented woodworker, making dollhouses and all sorts of furniture for his family and friends. More recently, he enjoyed meeting friends and having lunch at the senior center.
Stanley is survived by his daughter, Victoria Nunamaker and her husband Richard, of Delta, Colo.; their daughter, Rachel Dean-Ruzicka of Atlanta, Ga. and husband Matt Ruzika; son-in-law, Steven Ramp; and daughters, Alyssa and Katie Ramp of Carmel Valley, Calif.; his “adopted” son, Dennis Brosnan of Olathe, Colo. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Lottie (Pradota) Czepiel, his wife of 62 years; their daughter, Marlene Ramp; and his sister and six brothers. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
