Robert Henry “Bob” Cruz
February 26, 1962 ~ October 10, 2010
Robert “Bob” Henry Cruz, age 48, passed away on October 10, 2010 after a nine month battle fighting esophageal cancer. Born February 26, 1962 in Montrose Colorado, to Henry and Mabel Cruz, he attended Northside Elementary and graduated from Montrose High School in 1980. On November 30th, 1985, Bob married his soul mate Nicki and they had 3 children, Ashley, Joseph and Benton.
He was a lifelong resident of Montrose and was a loyal 27 year employee of the Montrose Recreation District. Bob will especially be remembered for his 12 years of coaching pee wee football and basketball, an avid softball player, fisherman and hunter but most importantly being completely devoted to his family. The greatest gift a father can give his children is to love their mother and that is what Bob gave to his children. Survivors include; wife Nicole, daughter Ashley, Sons Joseph and Benton all from Montrose. Father, Henry Cruz of Montrose, Sisters Jeri Martinez of Arvada, CO, Lorraine Maestas of Montrose, Rhonda Perkins of Olathe, CO, Charlotte Schendel of Montrose, CO and Vivian Sisneros of Montrose, CO. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Cruz.
Services will be held on Thursday October 14th at 3pm at the gazebo at McNeil fields. Family and friends are invited to the Elks lodge following the service for a Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The San Juan Mountain Credit Union, 1102 S. Cascade, Montrose, Co 81401. Thank you to the San Juan Cancer Center, Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, all of the physicians and the community for all of the support during this difficult time.
