Mary Elizabeth Couch

MONTROSE — Mary Elizabeth Couch, age 89, of Montrose, Colo., passed away Feb. 2, 2011. Mary was born July 11, 1921, to Samuel and Luella (Chauncey) Roberts in Key West, Fla. She married Otis Couch on Feb. 25, 1939, in Miami, Fla. and had celebrated 68 years of marriage when he preceded her in death on March 14, 2007, in Montrose. Prior to Montrose, they had also lived in Sebring, Fla., before moving to Montrose in 1989, to be closer to family and where they made their home until their times of death. Mary was a member of Abundant Life Church of God in Montrose. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and sewing. Her work often received blue ribbons. She enjoyed working with her hands, even growing her African Violets. Mary came to know Jesus as her personal Savior on May 25, 1946, in Miami, Fla. She was very active in church work throughout her life, as church organist, Sunday school teacher, choir director, and secretary/treasurer, and on some occasions, she even "preached." Mary had a lovely voice and often sang in the church and on the radio in her younger years. She was always honored to serve the Lord in any capacity. Mary was a very generous soul who loved and cared deeply for her family. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
Surviving family members include her daughters, Sally (Jerry) Holman of Stockton, Calif., Kathy Yancy of Little Elm, Texas and Elaine (Charles) Wagner of Montrose, Colo.; sister-in-law, Florence Roberts; six grandchildren, Douglas Holman of Stockton, Calif., Stacey (Paul) Robertson of Santa Clara, Calif., Beverly (Wes) Logan of Lodi, Calif., Jesse Yancy of Little Elm, Texas, Matt (Stephanie) Wagner of Olathe, Colo.; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Couch; two brothers, William Roberts and his spouse, Loretta Roberts, and C.W. "Frank" Roberts; one sister, Lois Redding and spouse, Rev. Randall Redding; one son-in-law, Robert Yancy; and one grandson, Joseph David Wagner.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E. Main St., Montrose, CO 81401 (970) 249-2121.
