Donald D. Chrivia

May 31, 1927 — Jan. 14, 2011

 

MONTROSE — Donald D. Chrivia, age 83, of Montrose, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Hospital and Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo. Don was born to Joseph and Anna (LaVack) Chrivia in Ogemaw Hill Township, Mich. Just prior to his 18th birthday, Don enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he married his wife, Bonnie, on Dec. 23, 1951 in Antola, Ind., and she preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2006, in Montrose, just after their 55th wedding anniversary.

He was a master mechanic for many years prior to his retirement. Don and Bonnie moved from Indiana to Montrose where they made their home until their times of death. Don loved the outdoors and mountains. He was avid fisherman and hunter.  Don enjoyed playing cards, watching western movies and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving family members include two sons, Ronald (Donna) Chrivia of Aurora, Colo., Joseph Chrivia of Amarillo, Texas; two daughters, Gale (Russell) Whittington of Montrose, Colo., Lela (Roy) Neely of Craig, Colo; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by wife, Bonnie; brothers, Jack, Leon, Ernie; sisters, Flossie, Agnes, Evelyn, Harriet, Sarah and Gladys.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Paul Nystrom officiating. An interment service with military honors will follow at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E.
