Ramona Casias

MONTROSE — Ramona Casias, a longtime resident of Montrose and Delta, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 from complications of pneumonia. Mrs. Casias was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Lamar, Colo. Ramona moved to Montrose in 1939 with her family to a farm on the east end of town. She married Roy Casias of Montrose, the love of her life, upon his return from World War II on Jan. 19, 1946. This week we will celebrate their 65th anniversary. Mrs. Casias was an active member of our community. She spent several years employed at Black Canyon Motel and the Russell Stover Candy Factory. Ramona then partnered with her husband to manage Rancho Casias Water Company and Casias & Son's Construction, which provided affordable housing for numerous residents in the Delta, Montrose and Olathe areas. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a devout member of Saint Mary's Church, an active member of the VFW, an avid Rockies baseball fan and soap opera enthusiast.
Daughters and sons surviving are Mrs. Marti (Eric) Svensen, Mr. David Casias, Mr. Steven (Dolores) Casias and Mr. Daniel (Corinne) Casias. Her surviving grandchildren are Sandra Casias, Julia Casias, Chris (Debra) Svensen, Jeremy Casias, Dan Casias, Nicolas Casias, Destri Casias, Scott Svensen, Cassandra Casias and Dylan Casias. Surviving great- grandchildren are Jessika Andrews, Trey Svensen, Kaylee Walker and Devante Fresquez.
All services will be held at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, located at 1855 Saint Mary's Drive. Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, there will be a public viewing followed by a vigil at 6 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at the church. A reception will be held after the service at the Holiday Inn, located at 1391 S. Townsend Ave., Montrose. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in memory of Ramona Casias, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402.
