Shirley and Bill were married 58 years and were devoted to each other. She was a caring and loving person who taught her daughters to follow their instincts about people, whether it was a kind word or a thank-you card or thoughtful gift. She had friends in every community she lived in.

She volunteered for many charitable organizations, particularly raising money to plant trees in Israel. She sang in a show choir for most of her life and loved classical and musical theater music.
Shirley worked for many years as a pollster for the Gallup Poll, supervising people in the field, editing and verifying their work. She was an avid reader, enjoyed books, movies and plays and was knowledgeable about political events. Shirley and Bill retired to Sun Lakes, Banning, Calif. in 1989 and she learned how to play golf to keep up with h
er husband. She was an excellent swimmer and taught swimming for many years.
She is predeceased by her daughter Deborah and husband, William. Shirley moved to Montrose in 2006.
She is survived by her daughters Anna (Bernard) Otis, of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Mavis (David Segal) Bennett of Montrose; her grandsons David Hart-Leverton and Dylan Bennett of Los Angeles and Daniel Bennett of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; her granddaughter, Alicia Forsberg (Matt) Stark of Castle Rock, Colo. and two great-grandchildren, Dakota William (Cody) and Maya Rose Stark.
