Howard V. Bell

February 6, 1922 - May 6, 2011


 

Paonia -Howard V. Bell former Montrose resident, passed away late Friday afternoon, May 6, 2011 with his family by his side at the Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center in Paonia, Co,  at the age of 89.

Howard V. Bell was born on February 6, 1922 to Ernest Bell and Cecyle M. (Furman) Bell in Morgantown, West Virginia.

 

Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army in World War II and was a pharmacist for the U.S. Army hospital in Bad Cannstatt, Germany.

Howard spent his childhood in Wadestown, West Virginia and graduated from Culver, Indiana High School in 1941. Howard attended college at the University of West Virginia and then relocated to attend C.U. at Boulder, Colorado and attended C.U. Pharmacy School from 1948 to 1950. Howard graduated in 1950, as a pharmacist that was his lifelong career in various places.

 

While living in Boulder, Colorado Howard’s two sons were born; Eric and Doug.

Howard then worked for 2 different drugstores in Waynesburg, Penn.; and during this time his son Keith and daughter Susan were born. He later moved to Colorado Springs and lived there for 26 years before moving to western Colorado. He lived on High Mesa Road above Olathe, Co for 12 years before moving to Cedaredge, Co for 3 years prior moving to Montrose in the spring of 2002 to be at a lower altitude which proved well for him. He made his home in Montrose before moving to Paonia to be closer to family.

Howard loved the great outdoors, even as a young boy riding horses all day. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and photography.

Surviving family members include his sons, Eric (Jari) Bell of Breckenridge, Co; Doug (Carole) Bell of Paonia, Co; Keith Bell of Republic, Wash.; and his daughter Susan ( Barrett) Nevard of Platttsburg, N.Y. , and grandson Micah Nevard as well as numerous grandchildren.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents.


A Funeral Service in loving memory of Howard will be held, Monday, May 9, 2011 at 3:00 pm at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Paul Nystrom officiating. The service will conclude at the chapel. Interment will be held in Wadestown Cemetery in Wadestown, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in loving memory of Howard may be made to the Boys Town National Headquarters, 200 Flanagan Blvd., P.O. Box 6000, Boys Town, NE 68010.
