Robert E. Bailey Sr.

Robert E. Bailey Sr., age 95 of Montrose, Co., passed away Jan. 29, 2012 at San Juan Living Center following surgery from a broken leg. Robert was born Sept. 8, 1916 to Robert and Freda (Henzi) Bailey in San Francisco, Ca. Following his graduation from Balboa High School in San Francisco, he then went on to Cogswell Polytechnical College, in San Francisco for an A.A. Degree Pattern Maker. Following his military service, Robert received his business degree from San Mateo City College.
Robert served his country in the United States Army during WWII and Battle of the Bulge, and a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the American Legion Post #105 in Redwood City, Ca. and Veterans of Battle of the Bulge.
Robert married Norma Sordelli on Apr. 13, 1941 in San Francisco, Ca., She preceded him in death on Jan. 14, 2006 in Redwood City, Ca., where they were residing. He was a member of St. Pius Parish in Redwood City, prior to moving to Montrose, Co. Robert was a Loan Officer at the Bank of American for 46 years in Palo Alto Ca., prior to his retirement. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed golfing, fishing camping and traveling.
Robert is survived by his son, Robert E. (Fran C.) Bailey Jr., of Montrose, Co. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Larson. Memorial contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America. A Memorial Service was held on Feb. 8, 2012 at the Spring Creek Chalet where he was residing and Father Mike Walker officiating.
