Edmund J. Althaus

MONTROSE — Edmund John Althaus, age 93, of Montrose, Colo., was taken home to be with his Savior on Feb. 1, 2011. He was born to Carl Althaus and Louise Korneman in La Rose, Ill. on Jan. 30, 1918. Ed was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church and became a child of God on March 10, 1918. He attended school in La Rose and graduated from La Rose Community High School in 1935. On Aug.14, 1949, he married Katherine G. Althaus, and they were blessed with 59 years of marriage and two children, Paul and Enid. Ed farmed in Illinois until moving to Fort Morgan, Colo. in 1955, where he owned a feed and seed business and served on the City Council. In 1979, Ed and Katherine and family moved to Montrose and were involved in farming and ranching. Ed was actively involved in the Lutheran Laymen’s League throughout his lifetime and served on the Board of Governors.
Ed is survived by his son, Paul (Sharon) Althaus; daughter, Enid (Corky) Miller; grandchildren, Kyle (Patty) Miller, Jeremy (Tessa) Miller, Alissa (Joshua) Heinecke, Michael (Lisa) Althaus; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, in 2009. Also deceased are his parents and two sisters, Ruth Hattan and Lois Vogelsmeier.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Delta. Memorial contributions may be given to Lutheran Hour Ministries, in care of Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1000 Pioneer Road, Delta, CO 81416.
